Leadership: Here is the way. Come On!
LEADERSHIP PART 1
“If I were to visualize leadership in my mind, it would be someone who points to the goal and guides the way what he or she believes, and if I were to to dub this image in two sentence, it would be ‘Here is the way. Come on!’.”
There can be many different definitions of leader, but at its core, two important elements play a role: first, to show the way, and second, and most importantly, to achieve results in the relevant field. To show the way, leaders need to have a purpose and a destination, which is called the mission. Seeing and imagining what comes after reaching the destination is the vision. To achieve these goals, a strategy is required.
There are some approaches that help improve leadership along the way to achieving these goals. A good leader should first show the big picture to the target audience, people should be able to see clearly where they want to go and what their goals are, which is the mission. Then, a vision should be created and the dream of the future should be shown. During this process, asking questions, listening to questions if any, and consulting are important cornerstones to ensure that the issues are understood by the other side. This is also called perception management. Also, when necessary, the subject should be detailed, made understandable, and made clear. Afterwards, a strategy should be determined and a path that can be followed should be created. Finally, it is important to inspire and motivate the people who will follow and continue on this path.
Based on the information I obtained from one of the entrepreneur Ömer Aras’s book ‘Deneyimlerim’ I would like to support the topic of leadership with an entrepreneurship perspective because leadership and entrepreneurship are closely related concepts. According to this book, entrepreneurship consists of three things coming together: environment, opportunity and action. The common aspect between entrepreneurship and leadership is that both emerge based on needs and have a targeted audience to appeal to.In other words, no one becomes a leader just to become one, the situation requires it, and it is unimaginable to have a leader without any followers. However, just having these factors is not enough to become a leader. It can be said that, those who notice the needs in the environment and see the opportunities are potential leaders and there are many of them. But you may be wondering why not all of these individuals can become a leader. Let me tell you the critical point. The leader, or in business terms, the entrepreneur, is the person who not only sees the opportunities but also creates a strategy and takes action to reach the goal and influence the masses.
